Gary Dale Zimmerman, 66, of Wooster died Monday, January 1, 2018 at Glendora Care Center.

He was born March 7, 1951 in Wooster to Dale L. and Marian Bishop Zimmerman.  On July 21, 1973 he married Debra Leach, who survives.

Gary graduated from Northwestern High School in 1969 and was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Smithville.  He had worked for the College of Wooster in the Transportation Department.  Gary was a MOPAR enthusiast, enjoyed softball and spending time with his grandchildren.

Along with his wife, Debra, Gary is survived by his children Chad (Patti) Zimmerman of Brunswick and Stacy (Somendra) Kahatapitiya of Catonsville, MD; grandchildren Jordan and Kendall Zimmerman and Logan and Addison Kahatapitiya; siblings Craig (Charlene) Zimmerman of Jeromesville, Todd Zimmerman of Wooster, Cheryl (Howard) Carter of Fayetteville, NC, Lisa (Robert) Keiffer of Piney Flats, TN, Sandra Hicks of Dalton and Fred Zimmerman of Tampa, FL.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Mark.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 5:30 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 777 S. Summit St., Smithville, with Pastor Kristy Buyok officiating.  There will be no calling hours.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

I am so heartbroken to hear about the loss of Gary. My heart go out to his family. Gary was such a great person and alot of fun to be around. Gary will be missed by many. Prayers to his family.

Gary and l first met at the Shreve school in grade school there, later he moved away, and l didnt see him until after high school during our street racing days,and our beer drinking days. Always thought a lot of Gary, and know that he will do well in his new journey. Rest in peace my old friend.

Gary and I had a lot of fun with the 340 Duster he had. That is when we became friends. He was one of the good people you have in you life. He like music and cars. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers for the family.

Gary was a fellow classmate at Northwestern. He was such a funny guy and could always make you laugh. Gary will be missed by many people. Prayers for his family.

My sympathy goes out to Gary's family. He was a great guy who always had a smile on his face. He will be sadly missed, but he is at peace now.

Gary was one of a kind. He was a fun guy who loved life, csrs, sports and his family . He will be remembered as the guy with a great smile. He is now at peace with his new life on the other side . We will miss you Gary . Condolances to his family . May God wrap his loving arms around you all .

such a really nice guy...I got to know Gary in the early 80's working with the Smithville Youth Baseball League as coaches. He has suffered for many years... RIP my friend

Gary was one of my childhood friends, and neighbor. Always had fun with him, and his brothers, playing baseball, the bus rides to school, church functions, and so many happy memories of the Zimmerman family. He was just an all around great guy. My most heartfelt condolences to Deb and their family. And to the Zimmerman family my deepest sympathy. Your Mom and Dad, Gary and Mark have a special place in my heart.

From your cousin way out in sad I won't be able to return to Ohio for services. My heart goes out to all the family. Love you all so much. Gary like Dale, always teasing and making everyone laugh. We've reminisced about the gold old days several times lately. He is pain free and in a happy beautiful place, with the Lord, Dad and Mom. My deepest sympathies!
