Gene H. Young Sr., 92 of Wooster, OH, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Dec. 5, 2016. He was a former Ft. Myers, FL resident before he came to live with his son in Wooster.   A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6:00pm on Saturday, Dec. 17 at Freedom Fellowship Church, 6209 S. Carr Rd., Applecreek, OH.
Gene was born January 15, 1924 in West Frankfort, IL, the son of William(Thomas) and Ethel Young. He was the youngest of 3 children. Gene was a 1942 graduate of Benton Township High School in Benton. IL.   He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.
On February 5, 1945, Gene married the love of his life, the former Patricia Ann Burkett in Williamsburg, VA. It was a love story that lasted almost 72 years.   She survives.   Gene is also survived by two sons, Gene H. Young Jr. (Kay) Wooster, OH and Randall (Catherine) of Southport, CT.   along with 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
Gene was a prolific oil painter with paintings all over the United States. His most prized paintings were the portraits of family members. He loved to people watch and never met a stranger. Gene leaves a legacy of love and laughter.
The family would like thank LifeCare Hospice and Gene ™s faithful aid of almost 5 years, Dana Staley, for all the love, care and support that was given to Gene and his family.
