WOOSTER – Gerald E. Jerry Mackey, 83, died Sunday, April 6, 2008 at his home with his family by his side.
Friends may call Wednesday evening friom 6-8:00 P.M. at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with a Masonic Memorial Service at 5:30 P.M.
Funeral services will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Robert Stull officiating. Burial will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery near Shreve.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne Co., 2525 Back Orrville Rd., Wooster, OH 44691
He was born on May 20, 1924 to Acil J. and Mary Core Mackey. On August 23, 1945 he married Dorothy M. Gindlesberger. She survives.
A graduate of Big Prairie High School, he served his country in the U. S. Army during WWII in the Phillippines.
He retired from Akron Brass Co. as a machinist in May of 1986. Jerry enjoyed serving others as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels during his retirement years.
He was a member of the Moreland United Methodist Church where he taught Bible Classes and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Garfield Lodge and the Masons for over 50 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children Linda Brady of Wooster and Larry (Cathy) Mackey of Mechanicsburg, PA; Two grandchildren Ryan (Robyn) Mackey of Pennsylvania and Jason Mackey of Tennessee and two step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Genevieve Westfall and his son-in-law, Earl Brady.
