Harold “Hal” Fulton

Surrounded by the love of friends and family, Hal passed on April 23, 2022.  Outgoing and generous of spirit, Hal was a friend to all. Throughout his life, he never met a stranger.

As a guidance counselor with a love of history, Hal was instrumental in the establishment and building of the Wayne County Career Center. He later went on to serve on Board of Directors of Wayne County Children’s Services. Through the years, Hal was an active member of the Elks, Kiwanis, 20-30, and the Wooster First Presbyterian Church, where he was both a member of the session and a deacon.

A veteran of the US Air Force and Air National Guard, Hal was passionate about honoring those who have served our country.  For over 20 years, he served on the 555th Honors Detachment (the Triple Nickel), participating in over 1,400 funerals for area veterans, in addition to serving as the invited speaker to many events honoring veterans. In recognition of his service and leadership, he was recognized as the Wayne County Veteran of the Year in 2016. Along with his wife, Valerie, he put in many hours as a volunteer at the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Valerie Fulton, daughter Lyn Fulton-John (Boston, MA), son David Fulton (Hollywood, MD), and grandchildren Kate, Arron, Danica, and Kaia.

Condolences

How sad was the news that Hal had passed away on Saturday. We taught at Northwestern High School while Hal was the Guidance Counsellor there, and the teasing (went both ways) was non-stop. We hope that many good memories of Hal’s event-filled, useful life will help to get you through this sad time. Our sincere condolences to all of Hal’s family and friends.

We are so sorry to hear about Hal's passing. We always enjoyed visiting with both Hal and Val. Again, place accept our deepest condolences.

M dear Valerie, so so sorry to read of Hal’s passing. You had 60 years, WOW! He was a good man and a good friend.
You have our sincere sympathy and our prayers.

Hal was the most approachable person I have ever known. It didn’t matter what the problem was, he wanted to be and was part of the solution. His sincere love of working with students was the hallmark of his years as a guidance counselor at the career center. His legacy of caring will live on in many lives. My prayers go out to Valerie and his family

Hal was a dear friend. Our friendship began 50 years ago at the Wayne County Career School . He always took the time to talk and offer his advice. His kindness was something I will always treasure . I will miss your smiles Hal, Rest In Peace my friend .

Hal was a real friend. Sally and I will always remember the dinners and wine we shared.

I Marita (Mark) Buchanan first had the honor of meeting Mr. Fulton in 1969-1970 at The Wayne County Vocational School. Mr. Fulton was a very caring man he always enjoyed keeping students on the right track to success. Mr. Fulton always took time to listen and talk to students. He was a great example to look up to. He will truly be missed by ALL who’s life he touched. Our Deepest Sympathy, Mr. & Mrs.Greg Buchanan

Hal was such an upbeat, passionate, dedicated and friendly person. His service on the Children Services Board was an extension of his career and demonstrated his compassion for children and families. He was always prepared and gave dedicated service benefiting thousands of children and their families. He exuded joy to all around him. After retirement he was almost always with his dear Valerie!! Our prayers are with you dear Valerie as you adjust to this huge loss. As we mourn here, heaven and the Lord are celebrating his arrival!!

My condolences to the Fulton family. Having grown-up in the Presbyterian Church, I have fond memories of Hal and the Fulton family! There was always a smile, kind word and interest shown concerning what was going on in my life at the time. I got my Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling and Hal was an inspiration for my pursuit of that career. Thank you Hal!

Sending prayers of comfort for the family. I first met Mr. Fulton when I attended the career center in the 70's. He knew students by name and was always there to help each one in any way he could. I was lucky enough to see him intermittently over the years and he was still smiling! May the family find peace in knowing how many lives he touched.

Prayers for Mr. Fulton's family. He was such a wonderful person and gave so much in his service to the Career Center (even after retirement) and as a member of the Triple Nickel. He will be missed by many.

Hal was a wonderful man. I enjoyed seeing him in the community, and he was a good friend to me and our staff at MCTV in Wooster. Many times he came on one of shows to promote something of importance, and it was always great to talk with him. Prayers for his family during this time.

Thank you for your service. Condolences to the family.

Sorry for your loss. Mr Fulton always had a smile and positive attitude to all he met. May your family find comfort in the days ahead.

Val, we were so very sorry to hear of the passing of your loved one. You and the family are in our prayers and may God grant you peace and comfort at this very difficult time.

I enjoyed working with Hal after I was appointed to the Wayne County Children Services board while he was the board president. His dedication to helping children and their families was endless, even while he was immersed in veterans' and church activities. Thanks to Val and his family for enabling Hal to share his time freely with many people in our community and beyond.

I was so sad to hear of Hal's untimely passing. My sincere condolences to his family. I had the privilege to serve with Hal in the Air National Guard where we published a 65-year history of the Guard in Ohio. This would not have been possible without his dedication to historical research of the military he so loved and served. We became good friends, and I will never forget his kindness and giving attitude. He is and will always be a very special friend to me. Rest in peace Senior Master Sergeant.

So sorry to hear of Hal’s passing. Hal was my high school guidance consular at WCJVS. Then had the privilege of working with him at the JVS. He was very helper to me as a new Instructor. Many good memories with Hal in an out of school. Rest in peace my friend. Prayer for the family and friends.

So sorry for your loss. We were students at NHS. I also served with Hal in 555th Honor Detachment.

Hal was a friend to everyone. He knew no strangers. God has a very special angel with him now. Rest In Peace, Hal. You will be missed by many. Prayers for Val and family.
