WOOSTER – Herbert H. STRAUSS, 78, of Wooster passed away Thursday, September 10, 2009 in Wooster Community Hospital after a period of declining health.
Herb was born on April 10, 1931 in Lorain, Ohio to the late Dr. Loren G and Lucille H. Rice Strauss. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Ellen M. Strauss whom he married on August 14, 1965.
He is survived by his children, Cynthia Strauss of Wooster, Karen (John) Drabenstott of Buford, GA, Robert (Vicki) Strauss of Wooster and James (Esther) Strauss of Smithville and step-children Larry (Pam) Mowrer of Moreland, Sandra (Patrick) Roach of Wooster. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren. A step-son Richard Mowrer preceded him in death.
A resident of Wooster since 1936, Herb graduated from Wooster High School in 1949 and received a Bachelors Degree in Economics from the College of Wooster. After completing his schooling, he served 2 years in the Army during the Korean War at Ft. Benjamin in Harrison, Indiana.
He retired from Ford Motor Company in Cleveland in 1986 after 23 years of service as a trouble Shooter Supervisor. In retirement his love of automobiles became even more apparent as he restored 3 vintage 1940 Ford’s for which he won many awards while traveling coast to coast to numerous car shows. He was an active member and past president of the Early Ford V-8 Club and was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America.
Graveside Services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Wooster Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Allan D. Aubrey of the Overton Community Church officiating.
McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family with arrangements.
