Hildegard M. Wharton, 94, of Wooster passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at her home with her son holding her hand.

She was born March 1, 1926 in Dreslaw Germany.  On September 1, 1948 she married Bernard E. Wharton Sr., who preceded her in death on May 10, 1999.

Hildegard had worked as a Personal Assistant for Henry Critchfield for 25 years. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where for many years she took care of the church flower gardens.  She was the former president of the Floralynn Garden Club.  Hildegard loved her flower gardens and her home was on the very first Every Woman’s House garden tour.  She also loved her precious Afghan Hounds.

Surviving are her 2 sons: Bernard (Patty) Wharton Jr. of South Carolina, and John W. Wharton of Wooster.  A grandson; Justin Wharton of Albuquerque New Mexico.

Hildegard was preceded in death by her husband and 2 siblings.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Wooster Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

When I lived on Christmas Run Blvd., I often stopped to speak with Hilda on my daily walks. She was such a gracious lady and I am sorry and extend my sympathy to her sons. May she rest In peace.

I am so very sorry to hear of this loss in my community. She was a wonderful woman and a treasure trove of knowledge. To her son John and friends Chuck and Lorraine, your constant loving care of her knew no end. My she finally Rest In Peace. Her beautiful soul left a lasting impact on me.
