WOOSTER – James Edward Murphy, 79, of Wooster passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Cleveland Clinic.

He was born July 28, 1939 in Maysel, West Virginia, the son of Lou James and Etta Mabel Summers Murphy.  He married Jenette A. Bevins on October 4, 1958.  She survives.

He retired from Bogner Construction and also worked for Hammond Construction in his retirement.  James also volunteered for Ohio’s Hospice Lifecare.

He proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1962.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Ronni (Gary) Mullins of Lugoff, SC and Jacki (Steve) Zody of Wooster; grandchildren, Ryan Scott (Jessica) Mullins, Riley Michael (Angie) Mullins, Colton Jacob Zody, Zachary James Zody and Taylor Jenette Mullins; great-grandchildren, Charleston and Ryker Mullins and Leo Mullins; siblings, Ruthe (Jon) Bole of Tryon, NC, Patrick (Carolyn) Murphy of Statesville, NC, Robert (Katie) Murphy of Bluffton, SC and Linda Murphy (Kevin) Saffell of Shreve; an uncle, Dallas (Mabel) Murphy of Wooster and nieces, nephews and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends will be received at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Inurnment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville.

have lost James. He was my friend from grade school on. Such

Tonight, my heart is sad. I just learned about James and I offer my deepest condolences to the family. I'm so glad that I got to see him in October. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers and that he will be missed. He was such a nice guy, and I will always treasure my memories of sharing classes and homerooms with him in high school. May God grant you strength and love to sustain you at this very sad time.

James was a good man, husband and father. He was loved by everyone that knew him. During is Senior year at CCHS he lived with my family as a loving family member, driving their F-150 and dating Jerri. He was like a brother to me for many years. Prayers for Jerri and his family. He shall be missed.
