James Murray Smith, 77, of Wooster, died Friday, April 27, 2018, at Glendora Health Care Center, following a period of failing health.
He was born February 19, 1941 in Akron to James Phillips Smith and Virginia Kathryn (Miller) Smith. He was a 1959 graduate of Wooster High School. Following graduation he worked with his father at Nickles Bakery in Wooster and then for Cliff Leighty at Leighty ™s Shell Station at the corner of Beall Avenue and Winter Street. He then worked at the Wooster Brush Company in the Print Shop until his retirement on April 30, 2003.
He enjoyed NASCAR racing and watching Jamie and Broc Martin race Sprint Cars at local tracks and visiting with friends at Wirt Towing in Moreland.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ronald D. and Sara A. Smith of The Villages, FL; his sister, Beatrice K. Smith of Wooster; two nephews, Todd A. and Andrew P. Smith of Land O Lakes, FL; cousins and his four-legged buddies, Mikey, Teddy and Max.
His parents, maternal grandparents, Simon and Bertha Miller and paternal grandparents Thomas C. and Kate Smith, died previously.
Services will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM with calling hours one hour before at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Tobias will officiate. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the scholarship fund of Wooster United Methodist Women, United Methodist Church of Wooster, 243 N. Market Street, Wooster or to the Alzheimer ™s Association, Greater East Ohio Chapter, 70 W. Streetsboro St., Suite 201, Hudson, Ohio 44236.
The family would like to thank the nurses, nurse ™s aides, therapists and staff at Glendora Health Care Center, for their care and love shown to Jim during the last two years. We have lost a wonderful brother, brother-in-law and uncle which has created a hole in our lives.
