James P. Herberger, 81, of Wooster died Saturday, September 30, 2017 at his home.
He was born July 17, 1936 in Cleveland to Robert Michael and Margaret Cavanaugh Herberger.   On September 16, 1961 he married Judy Hughes.   She preceded him in death in 2008.
James had worked as a Weed Science Technical Development Officer with I.C.I Americas. His focus was working in Plant Protection and Agricultural Development.   Along with his wife, he served in the U.S. Peace Corps under the Kennedy Administration helping the citizens of Bolivia with their agricultural development.   While he was studying Entomology at Ohio State University, he invented a bee venom extractor to help doctors working in the field of immunization.   While studying at University of Wisconsin James began writing the first of a series of three scientific books called The World ™s Worst Weeds.   His last years of working were spent at Boy ™s Village as a night guardsman. He also taught them how to play chess.
James was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.   He was a known and loved card player with his friends at the Apple Creek American Legion.   He was also known as œBlueberry  and since 1980 he helped his twin daughters run their Bluebird Blueberry Farm at his home.
James is survived by his son Robert (Michele) Herberger of Libertyville, IL, his twin daughters Tara Herberger of Wooster and Julie (Helmut) Herberger-Dittrich of Fellbach, Germany; 6 grandchildren; a brother John (Carole) Herberger of Lakewood and a sister Mary (Chuck) Kelly-Merrill of Columbus.
A Remembrance Reception will be held on Saturday October 14, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the Herberger home in their Black Walnut Grove.
There will be no calling hours.
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
