WOOSTER – James Theodore Questel M.D. (Doc) passed away peacefully,surrounded by his family on Friday evening, November 3, 2017.
He was born on July 4, 1924 in Kenova, Wayne Co., W. Virginia to Benjamin
Harrison and Nelle Edith Wilson Questel, and married Helen Marilyn Treaton June 13, 1948.
Dr. Questel was a WWII veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp a flight engineer.
He graduated from Kent State University, and Ohio State University Medical School. Dr. Questel served his residence at Akron General Hospital, and opened his General Medical Practice in July, 1956 in Wayne Co., Ohio.
Over the span of 40+ years he delivered many babies, performed minor surgeries, administered anesthesia ™s. He made countless house calls and nursing home visits. He also served as the jail doctor for the Wooster Police Dept. and Wayne Co. Sheriff Dept. Dr. Questel served many years as a deputy sheriff before becoming the Wayne Co. Coroner for 36 years.
He enjoyed life on the farm, hunting, genealogy, and spending time with family and friends. Doc being very supportive of the 2nd amendment was also a life benefactor member of the NRA.
In addition to his wife of 69 years, he is survived by children Brian (Gloria), Kelvin (Karen), Sharon, and Marlin (Jill); grandchildren, Brittney (Kyle) Keener, Corey Questel, Dr. Eric Questel, Ali (Dennis) Rodgers, Marlin Questel II and Sydney Questel; step-grandchildren, Gary. (Ann) Ritchie, Bryon (Jody) Ritchie and Daniel (Alishia) Ritchie. He has five step great-grandchildren and will be sadly missed by great granddaughter, Lillian, and many special nieces and nephews. Also surviving are siblings, Catherine (Ray)DeMattia, Dr. Quentin Louis Questel and Cecile Acker, and sisters in law,Jean Questel and Dorothy Treat Taylor. Briar, his dearly beloved dog)’ as he called him is also missing him.
He was preceeded in death by his parents; siblings Anne Sowards, John Questel, and brothers in law, Irvin Sowards, Howard Acker & Robert Taylor and a sister in law, Mary Questel.
His Memorial Service will be on Friday, November 10 at 1:00 pm at McIntire,
Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home in Wooster, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with the Rev. Stephen P. Olsen officiating.   Burial will be in the Wooster Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
