WOOSTER – Jean K. SALISBURY, 85, of Wooster, passed away Friday, January 22, 2010 in Wooster Community Hospital.
She was born June 1, 1924 in Fredericksburg, daughter of R. Wilbert (died in 1969) and Arline L. First (died in 1983) Knappenberger.
Jean graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1942, attended Wooster Business School from 1942-1943 and then moved to Lakewood in 1944. She was employed by Union Carbide Corp as a secretary to corporate executives until 1967 (23 years). She married Robert M. Salisbury in 1962. Robert’s YMCA career took the couple to St. Louis in 1967 and to Milwaukee in 1972. While living in Milwaukee, Jean was employed as a secretary for a group of physicians. Following his retirement in 1988, Bob and Jean moved to Wooster in 1989 where they joined the Trinity United Church of Christ.
Jean suffered a stroke in September of 2007. She was hospitalized at Akron City Hospital for four days followed by one month at Wooster Community Hospital. She was then transferred to Smithville Western Care Center.
In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by cousins who live in Bucyrus, OH. Donald Knappenberger and Carol Knappenberger Moran and Dorothy Knappenberger Tideback.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 1 hour prior to the 2:00 PM service with Rev. Glenn Royer officiating. Private family burial will be held.
