SMITHVILLE – Jeffrey R. Beery, 64, of Smithville, went home to be with the Lord on September 27th, 2016.   He passed away at his home with his family by his side after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Jeff leaves behind his wife Anne. His children include Susanne (Don) Kurtz of Burbank with children Brooke & Dezera Yoder and Autumn Kurtz, Amy (Tom) Hodgson of Dublin with children Madeline, Drew, Ava & Brock, Ryan of Cincinnati, and Leah (Andrew) Aubrey of Creston with children Ethan, Adeline, Micah, Genevieve, Ivan, and twin babies due in October. He was born on May 6, 1952 to parents Harold (Ted) & Rhea (Domka) Beery. Siblings include Roger (Pat) Beery of Wooster, Norman (Audrey) Beery of Smithville, John (Karen) Beery of Wooster, Calvin (Linda) Beery of Wooster, Dean (Melody) Beery of Sterling, Irene Barney of Sterling, and Connie Beery of Wooster.   He is preceded in death by brother Calvin and father Harold.
Jeff was a lifelong resident of the Smithville community. He graduated from Smithville High School in 1970. He served 6 years in the U.S. Army and the Wooster Unit of the Ohio National Guard. Jeff was the Warehouse & Transportation Manager for Buehler Food Markets for 33 years.   Purchasing and maintaining the truck fleet was one of highlights of his job.
Jeff was a member of the Smithville United Methodist church for many years and was baptized there in 1988. He offered his time over the years mowing the church lawn and serving on various committees.   He is a lifetime member of the Smithville Historical Society, and past member of Smithville Ruritan and Smithville Garden Club.
Jeff was a family man at heart. He and Anne (Stefanski) were high school sweet hearts and were married for 45 years. He cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. Whether it was a family picnic in his back yard, or traveling to Columbus and Cincinnati, he went out of his way to be an active part of his family ™s lives. He loved maintaining his property, landscaping, gardening, and gathering fresh eggs from the chickens in his coop. He could often be spotted riding through one of his fields on his Kubota tractor looking for another project to do. He also loved to travel, vacation with his family, and visit with friends.   After his kids left for college, Jeff developed an interest in cooking and enjoyed trying new recipes and a dinner club with friends.
His kind and humble spirit endeared him to those who knew him. His sense of humor will be missed. Don ™t be surprised if you see his smiling face on the side of a Buehler ™s Foods semi-truck. He was featured in some of their marketing about how the company is œPutting People First which was very appropriate as this is how Jeff lived his whole life. The family would like to thank their extended family members, dear friends, and colleagues of Jeff ™s for their support during his battle with cancer.
