WOOSTER – JoAnn Coppola, age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Future Care Chesapeake in Arnold, MD.
She was born on June 13, 1932, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the third and youngest child of Willard and Mille (Brown) Groff. JoAnn, who often went by œJo , grew up on a farm located in the rural part of Dalton, Ohio and attended Dalton High School where she was a majorette in the marching band. She enjoyed going to dances and spent many hours with her best friend Donna Massaro.   While still living in Dalton, she began work at Brenner Brothers clothing store in downtown Wooster along with John A. Coppola, who she eloped with on September 14, 1950 in Greenup, KY.
She and John spent their lives together in Wooster and had 3 children, Jody (Ron Huffer) Lanham, Jan (Tom) Dawson, and James (Mija) Coppola.   As the kids grew, JoAnn began working at the Bouquet Shop in Wooster as a design and customer service specialist.   She then worked as a secretary/receptionist for Long & Wilson in Wooster until she retired in 1994.   During her working and raising family years and well into retirement, she devoted much of her time to the things she loved such as sewing, golfing, baking wonderful pies, needlepoint and enjoying the company of her dogs ¦ Twiggy, Christie and Missy.   She also loved to visit with friends, neighbors and family and a get together in the backyard with John at the grill was a frequent occurrence.
In addition to her children, JoAnn and John leave behind grandchildren Hillary, Morgan, Brianna, Philip, Anthony and Alea, and great-grandchildren Coral Moon, Rosalin and Jose.
JoAnn adopted the Catholic faith and became a member of St. Mary ™s Church in Wooster where she attended Mass regularly.
Preceding JoAnn in death are her parents; her husband, John, of over 60 years; her brother, Bob; and sister, MaryBelle.
