Rev. John William (Bill) Lofgren, 91, of Wooster, OH, died Thursday at Hernando Pasco Hospice in New Port Richey, FL, surrounded by his family.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 7 from 6-8pm, Wednesday, April 8 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, and Thursday, April 9 at 10am, one hour before the 11am funeral service at McIntire, Davis, and Greene Funeral Home, Wooster, OH. The Rev. Dr. David Wilcox will officiate. Interment will be in Wooster Cemetery.
Bill was born October 10, 1917, at McKeesport, PA, the son of Charles and Mary (Irwin) Lofgren, and married Helen (Patty) Patterson on November 17, 1942.
Rev. Lofgren graduated from California State Teachers College in California, PA and from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. He served more than 65 years as a minister in The United Methodist Church, pastoring churches in Greenock, Hayes, Venetia, Scenery Hill, Braddock, Overbrook, Bridgeville, and Waynesburg, all churches in the Western Pennsylvania Conference, and several small churches in northeastern Texas. He also served as Visitation Pastor at Wooster United Methodist Church for 18 years.
Bill was loved and respected everywhere he served as an exuberant and caring servant of God and as a masterful storyteller. He had a special passion for visiting and serving the elderly and shut-ins throughout his life.
Bill was a charismatic patriarch who maintained loving and close relationships with all generations of his family. He enjoyed a special bond with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, formed through years of storytelling, songs, and rhymes. Attending countless activities, he remained a loving and supporting presence in their lives.
Surviving are children Lois (Gary) Werner of Massillon, OH, Louise Cook of Jacksonville, FL, Arlene (J.D.) Milliken of Wooster, OH, and Charles Lofgren of Wernersville, PA. Bill had eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Rev. Lofgren was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Helen, his twin sister, Louise Young, sister Mildred Miller, and brother Herbert Lofgren.
