WOOSTER – Kathryn Jane Hudson of Wooster passed away Sunday April, 19 at 5: 10 PM at the Wooster Community Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 18, 1917 to Harrison H. and Frieda M. Sloan Pennell in Big Prairie, OH and married John Edward Hudson on July 31, 1938. He preceded on October 20, 1999.
Kathryn was a resident of Wooster for over 60 years where she had a ceramics studio and many students over the years. After closing her studio, she donated most of the equipment to a program based in Ravenna, OH called Paths to Enrichment, Activity , Creativity and Enterprise that was created by Independence, Inc. and designed to promote independence through teaching skills based on individuals’ needs and interests. She also studied nutrition and became a strong proponent of curing illness and improving health with the use of natural vitamins, herbs and mineral supplements. She was instrumental in defeating the first attempts to increase fluoride levels in Wooster’s drinking water by educating people to the dangers. She was a member of and was active in Quota International of Wooster for many years. She and her husband greatly enjoyed displaying historic items at various Ohio and Pennsylvania shows and meeting with friends there. She was also an avid gardener and greatly enjoyed growing house plants. She was extremely devoted to her husband and cared for him during his final years. Both were members of the Lakeville Methodist Church.
She is survived by her children Sandra (Daniel) Cummings of Mat thews, NC, Rosalind (Larry) Dodds of Columbus, OH, James (Marcia) of Wooster, OH, sisters Geneva Johnston ofWooster, OH, Zelma Tate of Big Prairie, OH and Nedra Hiller of Polk, OH, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and forty- two nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Harry Pennell, Emerson Pennell, sisters Naoma Butts, Audra Stout, one niece and three nephews.
Friends may call on Thursday, April 23, 2009 from 12-2:00 P.M. at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 P.M. with the Revs. Shirley Thorpe and Bob Grover officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family have requested donations be made to the Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County and would like to thank the members of their staff who made Kathryn comfortable during her final days. A special thank you, as well, to the Wooster Community Hospital personnel for their efforts to save her life and their exceptional treatment. Thanks also to the individuals at Smithville Western Care Center who treated Kathryn kindly and provided her with proper care during her stay as well as the friends and relatives who took time to visit her.
