WOOSTER – LaVerne Van Bergen of Wooster passed away February 21, 2019, at LifeCare Hospice.   She was born February 2, 1918, in Cicero, Illinois.   Her late parents were Anna P. Johansson and Fred C. Holtz.   She grew up in Homewood, Illinois.    LaVerne married Arnold (Bud) Van Bergen on May 10, 1941, and they eventually settled in Crete, Illinois.   After Bud ™s retirement they moved to Homosassa Springs, Florida.   Upon his death, LaVerne moved to Wooster in 1990.   She loved Wooster.
After graduating from high school and taking a business course, LaVerne worked in a Chicago accounting firm before becoming a stay-at-home mom to three daughters.   She loved her family and friends.   She had a keen mind and an independent spirit and throughout her life was a meticulous record keeper.   She enjoyed crafting, cooking, baking and was an accomplished seamstress.  She was a member of the Wooster United Methodist Church.    LaVerne hoped she would be remembered as a good person who was kind to everyone.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by daughter Jean Van Bergen, brother, Fred C. H. Holtz, sister Luella Brindle, and nephews Dennis Brindle and Bob Whitton.
LaVerne is survived by daughters Carol (Larry) Stewart, and Joan French (Robert Braddock); grandchildren Greg (Karen) Stewart, and Laurel (Jim) Kane; great grandsons Graham and William Stewart; niece Sue (Larry) Brankov; nephews Mick (Chris) Brindle, Gary Holtz, Dean Whitton, and Gary (Cheryl) Gibson; great niece, Lisa (Steve) Taylor and their children Kyle and Katelyn; and great nephews Damon and Aaron Brindle.
