Lawrence “Jack” E. Pealer, 71, of Apple Creek died on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare.

He was born February 16, 1951 in Knox County to Edwin and Shirley Edmister Pealer.  On December 2, 1978, Jack married Karen Reed.  She survives.

Jack went into the Army after high school during Vietnam.  When he returned, he started doing small construction jobs, later working for W.G. Dairy and Campbell Construction.  Jack then went to work for himself as the The Wizard of Wood and Son for many years.  He also wore many other hats as well.  He was Santa Clause for kid’s parties, nursing homes and veterans homes for over 29 years.  Jack also portrayed Johnny Appleseed for the Apple Creek homecomings for several years.  He was Citizen of the Year in Apple Creek.  Jack also held many different hats in the veteran’s community as well.  He was a life member of the American Legion #147 in Apple Creek where he held many offices in the local, county and state levels.  He was voted as Veteran of the Year for Wayne County.  When Jack was younger, racing was a big part of his life. 

Along with his wife, Karen, he is survived by his son James R. Pealer of Apple Creek; brother Charles Pealer of FL; sister Connie Sue of OH; sister and brother-in laws; nieces, nephews and a cat Squeak.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, a son Lawrence E. Pealer and brothers Robert and Mike.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022 at 1:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St. Wooster with Pastor Dan Wingate officiating.  Interment will follow in Apple Creek Cemetery.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 2:00-5:00 PM at the funeral home.

I am sorry to hear of Jack's passing. We are losing a very good veteran. He was looked to when a veteran needed help. Thanks for all you have done for the veterans, Jack.
