Lewis Duke CROWNER, 82, of Wooster, OH, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008 in the Horn Nursing Home, Wooster.
Duke is survived by his wife of sixty years, Edith L. DelPropost Crowner, sons Howard B. (Cynthia) Crowner, Daryl L. (Dianna) Crowner both of Wooster and daughter Mary K. Ciula of Grand Island, New York. Grandchildren Jeremy Bowman, Justin Ciula, Kathryn (Gregory) Crowner-Drake and Carolyn Crowner; Great-grandchildren Tylor Bowman, Savanna Bowman, Graeme Drake and Xavier Drake. His parents, three sons David, Christopher J., and Daniel J. and brother James F. preceded him in death.
Duke was born in Zanesville, Ohio to Howard G. and Karhryn Carmichael Crowner on April 5, 1926. He moved with his family to Wooster at age 14. He served in the United States Navy during WWII on the Aircraft Carrier USS Shangri-La in the South Pacific. After discharge he was hired at Rubbermaid Inc. where he worked in the Maintenance Department, eventually becoming Maintenance Supervisor for the plant before retiring after 29 years to start his own business in 1976, Crowner Water Well Drilling.
Duke loved boating and waterskiing with family and friends, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He spent as much time as possible in the outdoors. He was an animal lover and always had a favorite dog in the home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wooster on Friday, October 24, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Father Stephen Moran officiating with calling hours at 10:00 A.M. Interment of ashes will follow in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family with arrangements.
