Service measured not by GOLD,
but by the GOLDEN RULE
Marie (Ramseyer) Beechy completed her earthly journey on June 15, 2022. Born April 23, 1918, she grew up on a family farm near Smithville, OH before earning her teaching credentials at Goshen College, IN where she met and married Orin Beechy. They served together in civilian public service in Downey, Idaho during WWII before returning to Wooster where Marie taught in the Wooster public schools for many years and influenced many students. Marie and Orin shared a love of travel including an epic cross country travel trailer adventure with their three daughters.
Marie was an active member and supporter of Oak Grove Mennonite Church including especially quilting and teaching vacation bible school where she provided special experiences for many children including her grandchildren. Throughout her life, hospitality was a high priority as the Beechy home was a welcome place for family, friends, and guests especially if they enjoyed homemade ice cream. After Orin's death, Marie met and married former high school classmate, Wilbur Shisler. Together, they also traveled widely, celebrated learning together through ElderHostel programs and supported their church and community.
Marie was very interested in the personal details of everyone she encountered. She didn't just want to know you in a general way. She wanted to remember and ask about details so she could affirm and support everyone she met. And, if you could play dominoes or Rook, she would invite you to sit down at her table.
Marie is survived by two daughters, Carol (Katie Boardman) Beechy, Linda (Hans) Houshower, son-in-law Charles Pfeiffer and four grandsons, Nick Houshower, Sam Houshower, Chris Pfeiffer and Matt Pfeiffer. Her eldest daughter, Mary (Pfeiffer) preceded her in death. She was blessed with five great grandchildren including Anson and Elana Pfeiffer, Theo and Rapha Houshower and Anahita Houshower. The family is grateful for the love and support of Marie's very special friend, Nancy Burkholder, and for the care she received from pastors Doug and Miriam Zehr and the staff of Crossroads Hospice and Westview Healthy Living.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Marie was a generous supporter of various charities. In lieu of flowers, contributions are invited to support the mission and programs of Crossroads Hospice, 3743Boettler Oaks Dr., Ste E., Uniontown, OH 44685 or Oak Grove Mennonite Church, 7843 Smucker Rd., Smithville, OH 44677 or to WestView Healthy Living, 1715 Mechanicsburg Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
