Accepting her cancer diagnosis with dignity and grace, Marilyn G. Akins, 87, of Wooster lost her brave and courageous battle after fighting the good fight surrounded by her family on Saturday, May 18, 2019.
She was born May 23, 1931 in Loudonville to Glenn and Ella Arnholt. She married Willis Akins, Jr. on June 29, 1950. He preceded her in death on August 25, 2013. They had been married 63 years. She graduated from Big Prairie High School in 1949 as class Secretary/Treasurer. She was a member of the Shreve United Methodist Church and an avid Cleveland sports fan. She enjoyed working outside in her lawn.
Known by family and friends as a kind hearted person who would help anyone, she never retired from being Mom as her children were her life. She welcomed many into her home where they stayed and soon came to call her Mom as well. Her most treasured times were spent with her children and grandchildren, as family always came first to her. We will miss her unconditional love and support.
Marilyn’s first job was at the well-known local business, Annats Department Store. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years. Her most cherished job was at United Titanium in Shreve, where she made lifelong friends with co-workers. Her most recent job experiences were with the Wayne County Fair Board, the Wayne County Map Office, and at the bookstore at OSU ATI.
