Together Again
Mary Belle Little Nelson of Shreve passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the home of her youngest daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Keith Dunbar.
Mary was born November 30, 1928 in Wooster to Laura and John Little.
Mom married our dad, Virgil J. Nelson, on September 12, 1947. Mom worked at the Daily Record for 20 years as the editor of the TV Tab while raising five children at our home on McDonald Street. After Mom and Dad retired they moved to the country near Shreve and built a new home. They continued working part time at their sons ™ restaurant, the Des Dutch Essenhaus in Shreve.
Mom and Dad loved to fish, mom probably more than Dad, and we always thought she was the better fisherman. They spent over 40 years in the summers at our cottage in Northern Ontario, fishing with their children ™s families and teaching the grandchildren and great grandchildren to fish and enjoy the Canadian landscape. It was their special place and we were blessed to spend all those summers together.
Mom was a life long member of the First Church of God on Akron Road and an active member of the TNT Class. Mom was preceded in death by Dad, her husband of 70 years, on September 15, 2017 and her sister Margaret Grimwood.
She is survived by their children John (Debi) Nelson, Jim (Susie) Nelson, Carol (Rick) Middleton, Bill (Rosanna) Nelson and Vicki (Keith) Dunbar; Grandchildren Adrienne (Ben) Byo, Alyssa (Sean) Piper, Erin (Chris) Webber, Megan (Mike) Shryock, Jamie (Jake) Scott, A.J. (Chelsea) Nelson, Johnny (Shruti) Nelson, Mary Elizabeth Nelson, Rachel Nelson, Danny Nelson, Ethan Dunbar, Jacob (Emily) Dunbar and Emily Dunbar; Great Grandchildren Taylor and Parker Byo, Allison and Sidney Webber, Cohen and Hadley Belle Shryock, Knox Piper, Decklyn Scott and two more great grandchildren due in May and July. Mom is also survived by her younger sister Joan Jewel.

  1. My deepest sympathy to the Nelson family. Your Mom (and Dad) were so lovely. We lived a street below you on Park Drive when you were on McDonald street. I always wondered how you all fit in that tiny house! I had been attending the TNT class with my Mom (before she passed last year) and got to talk with your parents at the class parties. At one of the parties Virgil gave me some dating advice. He was a good story teller and your Mom thought it was funny when I called her Mary Belle. They were always so nice to talk to. It’s hard to think of one without the other they were such a wonderful couple. They have been a part of the First Church of God family and my life as long as I remember and will truly be missed. It is hard to see all the good ones go but we will all meet again someday. My prayers for you at this difficult time.

  7. Your Grandmother Nelson and your parents lived beside us on E. Henry St., in Wooster. I so loved your mother. She was the kindest most loving person. She so loved her family and life itself. I worked with your Aunt JoAnn Jewel and I know this will be difficult for her too. Your mom and your dad are celebrating being together again in Heaven! My deepest heartfelt sympathy to all of you.
