Mary Charlene Gwin passed away on February 1st, 2022, at home, warm in her bed.
Charlene was born a coal miner ™s daughter – the seventh in a row of eight and to which God added two sons – to Basil D. Jones and Gladys L. Stephenson in the cozy town of Fola, WV.
Charlene graduated in 1963 at the age of 16 from West High School in Columbus, OH. From her youth she was an avid reader; it was not unusual for her to read 100+ books a year. The Wooster Public Library will miss her patronage.
Her green thumb was never stayed, neither by acreage nor by climate, whether it was a large garden in a corner of 5 acres in Oklahoma, window-sill African violets in stuffy New Orleans, or hydrangeas, roses, clematises, and vegetables, Charlene kept things growing. Her green thumb lives on in her eldest, Chad.
She is preceded in death by her husband Richard B. (Dick) Gwin, father Basil D. Jones, mother Gladys L. Jones, brother John Howard Jones, sisters Helen E. Lewis, Patricia L. Jones, Brenda R. Rogers.
Surviving Charlene are her sons Chad Totman of Columbus and Bill (Claudia) Totman of Tampa, her grandchildren Georgina and Henry, her sisters Annie Wallace of Arvada, CO, Anita Grey of Lancaster, Betty Scott of Columbus, Marilyn Jones of Columbus, Tom D. Jones of Mesquite, NV, her step-sons Mitchel (Beth) Gwin, Kurt Gwin, and their children.
Private family services will be held.
