APPLE CREEK Mary Stella McElwain, 89, of Apple Creek passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Wooster Community Hospital.
She was born November 5, 1931 in Youngstown the daughter of Charles and Eva Mae Creighton Girts. Mary married Walter E. McElwain on September 20, 1952. He preceded her in death on September 20, 2006.
She was a 1949 graduate of South High School in Youngstown and had worked as the Church Secretary at the Church of the Good Shepherd and taught children’s Sunday school and helped with Vacation Bible School. Mary currently attended the Orrville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.
Mary enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her children Ronald W. (Jane) McElwain of Lima, Sharon A. (Rex) Lewis of Florida and Susan M. (William) Darm of Apple Creek; grandchildren Eva McElwain, Emily (Chad) Beair, Stephanie (Kristoffer) Hudson, Ruth (Michael) Wonderly and Ellen Lewis; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings Charles and Donald Girts and Carole Wire.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded by her parents and siblings Arthur, Robert and Grace Girts, Ella Serenko, Margaret Williams, Betty Freese.
Private family services will be held.
