Michael A. " Mick " Dwyer

Birth Date:
Wednesday, March 27, 1957
Date of Passing:
Sunday, March 22, 2020

Born on March 27, 1957, Michael A. Dwyer (“Mick”) the oldest son of Ruth Dwyer Archer and the late Eldon J. Dwyer took the hand of his heavenly Father on March 22, 2020, and moved onto his eternal life with his Lord & Savior after a 17-month battle with liver cancer.

Known to many around the Stark County area as a naturally gifted athlete, Mick graduated from Fairless High School and attended Malone College for three years before being signed to play professional baseball with the San Diego Padres minor league team, the Walla Walla Padres. Upon his return to the area, he worked for several employers including the Surety Life Insurance Company, Ken Miller Supply, United Parcel Service and Starrett Services before starting his own successful business known as Rock Solid Flooring which he owned and operated for 12 years.

Mick received several accolades throughout his lifetime including election into the President’s Council for Surety Life in 1985 as the 8th top sales producer company-wide, induction into the Stark County Hall of Fame and also the Fairless High School Hall of Honor.

Affectionately known as “Big Mick” to many not only due to his physical presence but more so because of his infectious personality and smile. Very rarely could he enter a room unnoticed and usually left with several more friends. A lover of God, sports, travel, adventure and relationships, Mick left a lasting impression on every person he met.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cheryl (Culbertson) Dwyer of Dalton, daughter Danielle Dwyer, son Logan ( Cassie Pizzurro ) Dwyer and grandson Hudson Dwyer, mother Ruth Archer, brother Jon (Leslie) Dwyer and family, brother Bob Dwyer,  father-in-law Neill Culbertson, sister-in-law Lisa (Scott) Hahn, brother-in-law Ron (Lisa) Culbertson and family.

Mick was preceded in death by father Eldon Dwyer, step-father Paul Archer and mother-in-law Jeanie (Moretti) Culbertson.

A private family burial was held at Dalton Cemetery on March 27, 2020.  A public memorial service will be held once Covid-19 pandemic restrictions are lifted.

Mick had an infectious smile that brightened the room. He was so dedicated to Cheryl and the kids and over the moon about his grandson. His passing will be felt always. Our love to his family as their beloved husband, father and grandfather passes into paradise.

So very saddened by this news!! Many thoughts and prayers for your family!!

We just returned from the winter in Florida, and heard about Mick's passing. Mick was such a great friend to so many, and he will be missed by so many including me. His smile and energy was infectious, and the class of 1975 at Fairless in particular are heartbroken over this loss. There are so many who are deeply saddened, we will definitely have a moment of silence at our 45th high school reunion in October for Mick. Prayers, thoughts and love to the entire family.

Shocked to hear the loss of one of the most shining personalities I have ever met. My heart and prayers are with the family at this trying time.

Bobby so very sorry for your loss, Many thoughts and prayers for your family!

You have my deepest sympathies with your loss. MIC was a true Fairless heroe.

Our deepest sympathy to all of the family.

My sincere condolences to Danielle, Logan and Cheryl.

We are truly sorry for your loss and will be remembering your family in our prayers.

Ruth, Jon, Bobby, and family - Mick will always be in my memory as someone who loved life and embraced friendships wherever he ventured. He was a mentor on the baseball diamond and the basketball court. The fun times we had in your backyard ball field "Peanut Park" on a daily basis are the stuff of legend. This was "Sandlot" years before that movie was even thought about. Deepest sympathies to all.

So sorry for your loss. Praying for the family.

Bill and I are so sorry for such a huge loss. Praying for your family❤️

When you talked to Mick, you were the center of his attention. He made you feel that every word was important and interesting to him. He reflected, with his faith, the light and love of God as he walked the walk. Though we will miss him, take comfort that he is in God’s arms and has no need to to fight any longer. Cheryl, our love to you and the family.

Our deepest sympathy for the entire Dwyer Family. Big Mick was one of most positive people that we have ever met. How he and his family handled each day should be a lesson to all of us on how to live our lives. We will always cherish our relationship with Mick and his family. Love you Big Mick!

Big Mick was a Big friend of mine, fortunate enough to be able to call him friend from the time we met in 8th grade all thru high school. Life was never boring, never dull when you were hanging out with Mick. Everywhere you went, people knew him. He was such a gifted athlete, basketball and baseball, it always seemed a shame that he couldn't play football also, but those were different times in high school sports. He'd have been a star there also. I can't wait to see him again and maybe play a pick up game or maybe a round of golf. Lost a good friend, and my life will be the poorer for that loss. Rest in peace Mick:)

So sorry for your loss Cheryl. Mike was a great guy. You take care of yourself.

Our deeoest sympathy to the entire family. Rest in peace Mick.

So sorry to hear of Mick's passing. We are praying God would comfort you and your family in the days ahead. Sending hugs.

Cheryl,Danielle,Logan, Very sorry to hear of Mick's passing. We have good memories associated with him. Dan and Deb

Our hearts are saddened by your loss and our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Our hearts go out for you. Barry and I are both praying for you all. I have always enjoyed talking to Mick. His enthusiasm for life and for the people around him was always evident. Over the past months. Mick and I have had some wonderful phone conversations. In those he spoke how much he loves his wife and his children and grandchild, his mother, his brothers and their families. How much joy he and getting to play with his little grandson. We spoke also of how great the Lord has been to each of us in our cancer Journeys. Although he wasn't in a hurry to leave those he loves behind, he spoke over and over that he knew the Lord is his personal Saviour and he knew that he would be leaving this Earthly life for his Heavenly home. I rejoice in knowing that I will see him again one day. We spoke that we neither one fear death because absent from the body will be present with the Lord.

My condolences to the Michael Dwyer family. There was always energy around you when Micky was in the room. Rest in peace.

Our hearts go out to you all. Barry and I are praying for you. I have always enjoyed talking with my cousin Mick. His enthusiasm for life and for his family was always quite evident in those conversations. With both of us battling cancer, we talked often of the Lord and how God was working in our lives and sustaining us and comforting us. He spoke often of his lovely wife, his children, and the joy of being able to hold and play with his little grandson. How much he loves each of you. He also spoke of his love for his mother and his brothers and their families. You are all very special to him. He also spoke of his great love of the Lord and that he was ready to go home to the Lord whenever the Lord wanted him to come. I Rejoice that he is with his Savior whom he loves so much. We are praying for peace and comfort for each of you.

My sincere prayers are with Ruth and your family at this truly sad time. I can only offer the realization that he now walks hand in hand with Jesus with no pain. Do your best now Ruth to bare this incredible loss and know how much you are loved. Lori your friend from the Flea Market and someone at your call if you should need my help or simply strbjusy in the need of my friendship! It will be my honor to lend you my hand.

Although it’s been yrs since I’ve seen him I have fond memories while we work at the hospital together. May you Rest In Peace and May the Lord comfort his entire family now and for months to come.

Cheryl and Danielle and Logan and Hudson... Dave and I are so sorry to hear of about Mick.. we have great memories of him and Cheryl when we were in Arizona... we had a great visit with you both... God Bless your family....

On behalf of Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service Orrville we are very saddened of the loss of Mick. We want to send our thoughts & prayers out to such a great family during this tough time. Mick was a man of sports. But a man of his family that he loved so much. We will miss you Mick. R.I.P. our friend.

So many fond memories of growing up with Mickey. From down at the farm on many Sundays after church and all the pranks to being dragged to his and Jonnie's baseball games when I was little. Playing softball at family reunions and Mickey being picked first and me being picked almost last when choosing teams. As teens, crossing paths with him when we were in high school, and so many of my girlfriends wanting me to introduce them. He always had a smile and a hug awaiting me. He was so upbeat and positive to the very end. Loved him dearly. Love and prayers to you, Cheryl, and your family.

Dear Cheryl & Family:
We were deeply saddened to hear of Mick's passing. So very sorry for your loss. Praying God will hold you close and comfort your hearts now and in the days ahead.

Even though I haven't been in close contact with Mick during the many years since graduating from Fairless in 1975, it does not lessen the pain of hearing of his passing. I always considered him my friend going all the way back when we played on the 'Betteker Bobcats' basketball team in the 8th grade. I was just looking at a photo I have of the team a few weeks ago and it brought back alot of good memories. You will surely be missed by all Mick.

Cheryl and family, so sorry to hear of Mick's passing. Keeping you in thoughts and prayers.

Big Mick as we called him, with a BIG smile and a BIGGER heart........his Heart now rests with the Sacred Heart of Jesus......we will meet you again.....RIP Mick
