WOOSTER – Nancy Nicholson SLAYDON, 79, of Wooster passed away Monday, June 29, 2009 in Glendora Health Care Center.
She was born September 9, 1929 in Cambridge, OH, daughter of J. Bernard and Helen Firestone Nicholson. She married Roger T. Slaydon on October 23, 1953. He died March 2, 1992.
She was a 1947 graduate of Cambridge High School and a 1951 graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. After college, she taught elementary school in Bakersfield, CA for 2 years and Cambridge, OH for one year. She had also been the co-owner along with her husband of the Party Shop for 32 years and worked in the Student Union at the College of Wooster for 13-1/2 years. Nancy was a life member of St. James Episcopal Church (Jr. Warden, Sr. Warden, Vestry) She was also a member of the AAUW, the Colony Club, Wooster Women’s League, Planned Parent Hood, had been a 4-H Advisor, a member of Friends at Every Women’s House and Habitat for Humanity.
Surviving are daughter, Julia (Ray) Henderson of Cincinnati, OH, son, John W. (Jenny) Slaydon of Wooster; grandchildren Melanie Slaydon, Steven Slaydon, Jarra Henderson, Megan Donelson, Jacob Donelson and David Burnett, a great-grandchild Bria Henderson, a brother, Andrew W (Karen) Nicholson of Charlotte, NC.
Nancy was preceded in death, in addition to her husband, by her parents sisters, Georgeanna N. Smith and Sarah Ruth Nicholson.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 3, 2009 with the Rev. Evelyn Manzella officiating.
The McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family with arrangements.
