WOOSTER “ Oliver C. Pettis, 85, of Wooster passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Smithville Western Care Center.
He was born May 5, 1933 in Marianna, Arkansas, the son of Elies Henry, Sr. and Maggie  Sherman Pettis.
Oliver was a graduate of Massillon Washington High School and had been a youth leader at the Multi-County Detention Center for 18 years.   He enjoyed reading, writing poetry and working with troubled kids.   He was president of the Residential Tenant Council at Smithville Western Care Center.
He honorably served his country with the U.S. Air Force for over 20 years.
Surviving is his son-in-law, Raymond Lancaster, his God daughter, Cheryl Dodd Mitchell, grandchildren, Jerl Fox, Shawn Fox, Raymond Lancaster and Stephanie Lancaster; great-grandchildren Abby and McKenny; nieces and nephews, Betty Washington, Kenneth Pettis, Sr., Jackie Pettis, Rachel Pettis and Bernard Pettis, Deborah Edwards, Jenalalia Loving, Nolice Edwards, Cervantes Edwards, and Anthony Edwards; his siblings, Detroit Miller, Evaline Pettis, E.H Pettis, Marline Pettis Edwards, and Willie Green and his step-children, Querida Wheeler, Carol Wheeler and Harold Wheeler and step-grandchildren, Quon Wheeler, Quyrus Epps and Quara Gant.
Oliver was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Pamela Lancaster and a brother, Eli Pettis, Sr.
Friends will be received 1 hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. service on Monday, September 17, 2018 at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.   Burial will follow in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville, OH 44273 at 2:30 p.m.
