MILLERSBURG ? Oscar Ackerman, 78, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by family on April 29, 2010 at Sycamore Run Nursing Home in Millersburg.
He was born in Wooster August 2, 1931 to Henry and Mary (Long) Ackerman. He married Mary F. Daugherty on May 29, 1984. She died March 30, 1999.
He graduated from Apple Creek High School, served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in June of 1960. He had worked at Borg-Warner-Rexroth retiring in 1993. He also did appliance repair work for years. Oscar attended the West Hill Baptist Church. He enjoyed raising miniature donkeys, traveling to different states and attending yard sales.
He is survived by his children Linda (Mike) Hensel of Holmesville, Kelly (Ben) Hoover of Shreve and David (Bonnie) Ackerman of Shreve. Grandchildren April (Phil) Twinem, Brian (Jess) Hensel, Amber Hensel and Autumn Hoover; great-grandchildren Jordan, Katie and Hope Twinem and Braelyn and Brayden Hensel; brothers Fred Ackerman of Fredericksburg and Sam of Wooster; sisters Priscilla of Wooster and Millie of Nevada.
His dog Freddy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Henry Paul and a sister Ruth.
Friends will be received one hour prior to the 11:00 A.M. service on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with the Rev?s Jim McMillan and Rick Trumbo officiating. Burial will be in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
