Patricia (Pat) Joan Young, 86, of Wooster, passed away Friday December 4, 2020 at Danbury Senior Living following a period of declining health.

Pat was born April 1, 1934 in Petoskey, Michigan to the late Ralph and Esther (Blackmore) Young. She graduated from Wooster High School and obtained a Bachelor of Arts from The College of Wooster and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Akron.

Pat’s compassionate spirit and love of learning led to a 30-year career in the Triway School System where she served as a teacher, guidance counselor and coach. After retirement, she found a new passion for helping others by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.

Pat had a zest for life and loved to be active. She delighted in swimming, hiking and skiing which she continued to enjoy into her seventies. She was also enthusiastic about the arts and found immense joy in books, theatre and music.

Her blended family was one of the greatest joys of her life. Surviving is her sister Kathleen Hothem; five children, Jan (Dale) Wolf, Keith Beckstein, Nancy (Beckstein) Titus, Linda Beckstein, Thomas (Janet) Beckstein; four step-children, Linda (Schmidt) Hill, Rick (Anne) Schmidt, Gary (Kathy) Schmidt, Ken (Bill) Schmidt; 17 grand-children; 21 great grand-children and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her step-mother Martha (Gilkey) Young and sister, Judy Young.

Pat shared many gifts in life that we will always treasure. Her adventurous spirit, curiosity and ability to love will be passed on through the generations to come.

The family would like to express tremendous gratitude to the staff at Danbury Senior Living for their kindness, love and support.

Condolences

So sorry for this loss. Sending hugs of comfort during this time.

I’m extremely sad to hear this. I was trying to visit her the last couple months but kept getting denied. Coach (Schmidt) Young was an awesome and very patient Cross Country coach of mine that put up with a lot of “horseplay” from myself and teammates. She always had a smile on her face and a happy spirit. Til we meet again. Love u Coach (Schmidt) Young! ❤️

So sorry to hear this. I loved Pat. My condolences to the family.

So sorry for your loss Jan. You and the family are in our thoughts and prayers.

So sorry for your loss Jan. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Prayers to the family, I always loved have Mrs. Schmidt as my cross country coach and guidance counselor. She will be missed. Even when I saw her as an adult she always stopped to talk to me.

Condolences.Jessie worked at habitat with pat several yrs ago,,and I currently work at Danbury,I always spoke to pat.what sweetheart.

I am so very sorry to hear that Aunt Pat has passed-away. She was so kind to Mom and I. There is so much I could write about her. It was pleasure to know her.

Jan, Dale and family, I am sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. I remember her from Triway. Then she was surprised to see me and remember who she was when I entertained at Danbury. Always enjoyed seeing her and talking to her. Remember the good times you had together.

I was saddened to hear of Pat’s passing. I always looked forward to visiting with her on my visits to Danbury. We shared experiences of college days at The College of Wooster when her dad was Dean of Men while I was a student, of our families friendships and, especially, off the times when I taught at Triway and she was Guidance Counselor. She was a kind, lively, and interesting person whom I will miss. My condolences go out to her family.

Jan. So sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family

Heaven sure gained one of the best. Pat was an immeasurable addition to the Board of Directors at Habitat for Humanity, as well as one of the earliest volunteers in helping get the ReStore going. Her guidance was most appreciated, and her sense of duty and compassion ran deep. On top of that, she was just a lovely, lively woman who helped so, so many.

My sympathies go out to the family during this time in the loss of this spirited lady.....

Kathy and Family: Please accept our sincere sympathy. As you know, Racky and Martha and your entire family are special to us, and Pat was another outstanding Young! You will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.

So very sorry to hear this. I had her only as a homeroom teacher but loved those few minutes every morning with her, as well as knowing her after graduating. She always waited until she or someone could see my car pulling into the parking lot before taking attendance. Lol. Best thoughts to the family.

I am sorry sorry to hear of our great loss. It was my freshman year she stepped in to take over the cross country program so that it would continue. Coach was one of the most patient and dedicated people I know. She tolerated a lot of craziness by a group of guys that had no idea what to do and how good we could be and yet in the end she had us running at the state meet finishing fifth place as a team. She was a great coach and even a better person. We will all miss you but will never forget you.

Our sincerest sympathies to the entire extended family. Sandy crossed paths with Pat many times when they were in education together. We crossed paths through Racky, Martha and Kathy. We made connections at Westminster. She was always upbeat and inspirational! Thinking of you all as you grieve this loss in your family.

I am so sorry to learn of Pat's passing. She was a good friend in college and after. My condolences to her family.
