WOOSTER – Perry Levin Searcy, 86, of Wooster, Ohio, formerly a Louisville resident, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2008, in Wooster, Ohio. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on August 24, 1921, to the late Albert Levin and Mary Fothergill Searcy. A World War II veteran of the United States Army, he served with the Signal Corps as a radio technician in the European Theater. After the War he graduated from United Television Laboratories in Louisville, and taught electronics there for three years. He then pursued a career in television broadcasting and was employed as an engineer at WAVE-TV for 36 years.
Perry was a Christian and for many years an active member and Bible teacher at Cooper Memorial United Methodist Church in Louisville; and most recently a member of Wooster United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the American Legion. He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved camping, square dancing, music, and all his family. A caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. He will be missed by all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elliot and Robert Searcy. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Frances Catherine Hollis Searcy, and four sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael P. and Candice Searcy, Maurice L. Searcy, Hollis L. and Ellen P. Searcy, and Mark W. Searcy; eight grandchildren, Emily Searcy, Beth Morgan, Kim Bratcher, Brennen Searcy, Trevor Searcy, Crystal Patterson, Tiffany Searcy, and Will Shaffer, a twin sister, Nancy B. Martin, of Louisville, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Arch L. Heady Funeral Home, 8519 Preston Highway, Louisville, KY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wooster United Methodist Church, 243 N. Market St., Wooster, OH 44691 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greater Wayne Co., 2525 Back Orrville Road, Wooster, OH 44691 in his memory.
