WOOSTER – R. Dale Shingleton, 81, of Wooster passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster.

He was born August 30, 1936 in Lisbon, the son of Robert and Rose Godwin Shingleton.  He married Rebecca Ayers on July 30, 1983.  She survives.

He proudly served the state of Ohio with the State Highway Patrol for 21 years retiring in 1981.  In his retirement, he had worked for David Waldron as a safety security officer and in security at Rubbermaid, Gerstenslager’s and Wooster Community Hospital retiring in 2011.  Dale enjoyed watching his kids and grandchildren play sports and fishing and hunting.

He proudly served his country with the US Marines from 1955-1957.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, David (Karen Heath) Shingleton, Lisa (Darl Parry) Shingleton and Ryan (Amber) Shingleton; grandchildren, Josh, Jake, Jon, Bond, Austin, Tyana and Bryce; great-grandchildren, Hayley, Rory, Kallie and Charolotte; siblings, Jim Shingleton, Ed Shingleton, Frank Shingleton and Norma Holtom.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Larry and Leroy.

Friends will be received at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 5-8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Kirk Fairhurst officiating.  Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
