Robert Edwin Thomson passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022 after declining health at the age of 96.  He was born February 22, 1926 in Mt. Hope, WV to W.C. and Margaret Thomson.  Bob married Patricia Welsh on June 27, 1981. She survives.

Bob graduated from Mt. Hope High School and then enlisted in the army during World War II where he served under General George Patton. His battalion was the first to meet the Russians near Berlin.  Nine months were spent guarding prisoners at Dachau.  Following V.E. Day he served as Director of the 47th Infantry Orchestra.  After returning home Bob attended Concord College, West Virginia, and after completing 4 years there he obtained a master in music degree at the Ohio State and a scholarship for a doctoral program in guidance & counseling at OSU.  He was in educational settings for 30 + years.  His hobbies were writing poetry, teaching skiing for 25 years, biking and camping with his wife. He was a fan of OSU and Cleveland Browns.   Bob was a member of the Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church.  He also was a member of Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio – Thrall Lodge # 170.

Surviving in addition to his wife are children James (Nancy) Thomson of Arkansas; Dave Thomson of Fredericktown, OH; stepdaughter Deb (Randy) Day of Glenmont, OH; a grandchild Seth (Caci) Thomson; and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers John, Hugh, William and James; sisters Jenny, Margaret, Ann and Isabelle.

A funeral service will be held Monday, September 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with Pastor Darcy Miller officiating.  Burial will follow at Wooster Cemetery.

Friends & Family will be received 1 hour prior to the funeral service.

Memorial contribution may be made to Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church, 201 N. Mill St., Fredericksburg, OH 44627.
