WOOSTER – Robert Eugene PURDY, 89, of Wooster, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010 in Wooster Community Hospital.
He was born November 2, 1920 in Wooster, the son of Galen and Mary Snyder Purdy. He married Geneva Delmont on November 2, 1941. She survives.
He was drafted into the Army upon declaration of war in December 1941 and served with the Signal Core in Siapan, Japan until the war ended. After being discharged, he worked for Freeman Construction, owned his own business, Purdy’s Antenna Service and retired from Wooster City Schools. He was a member of the First Church of God.. Robert enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, playing cards and bingo with his friends at the Community Center and spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 68 years are his children; daughter, Barbara (Bob) Riffee of PA, and a son Robert G (Karin) Purdy of FL, grandchildren, Kimberly (Tom) Hornung and their children Paige and Hannah, Suzanne (Denis) Green and their daughter Samantha, J. Scott (Sue) Purdy and their children Garrett and Chase, Amanda (Greg) Foltz and Dirk (Laurel) Purdy and their son Logan.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Clyde and Richard.
There will be no calling hours or services..
McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family with arrangements.
