WOOSTER – Robert V. Smith, 80, of Wooster went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the Avenue of Wooster.

He was born August 21, 1937 in Wooster, the son of Thomas and Bernice Hildebrandt Smith.  He married Ellen Jones on June 3, 1956.  She survives.

He retired in 1999 after working 27 years for Campbell Oil.  He had previously worked for International Paper, Ray Crow and Pepsi.  He was a member of the Arlington Ave. Church of God in Canton.  He enjoyed motorcycling on his Goldwing.

Robert proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1953-1958.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Ellen, are his children, Cheryl Ellen Swingle of Columbus and Curtis (Tammy) Smith of Wooster; grandchildren, Alexandria (Chris) Lambert, Adam Swingle, Summer Smith, Bobbi Bryans and Brittany Bryans and a sister, Linda Culler of Ashland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Thomas Smith, Barb Burson and Ruthie Grunder.

A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Mt. Zion Church of God, 837 S. Geyers Chapel Rd., Wooster with Pastor Webb Parson officiating.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church of Monday.

Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

I am so sorry for your loss, he was a wonderful man. I enjoyed the time I spent with him when he was in TCU. Your family is in my prayers.

We are very sad at the loss of Bob. We got to know him a little as we visited with Cheryl for different events that she had in her home. Dave especially enjoyed chatting up a storm with Bob. Ellen I am so sorry for Bobs passing , you have been so loving and diligent in caring for him. I know that it will be difficult but please feel comforted knowing he is with our Lord and Savior.
