WOOSTER – Roy P. LOCKETT, 65, of Wooster, died Sunday, August 10, 2008 in Wooster Community Hospital.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill Street, Wooster, OH, on Thursday evening from 6-9:00 P.M.
Funeral Services will be held in the McGaw Chapel at College of Wooster, Friday, August 15, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev.’s Rufus Thompson and Rickey Brown, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Wooster Cemetery.
Those who wish may make contributions to the Wooster Community Youth Center, aka The Spot, 101 W. Bowman St., Wooster, OH 44691.
Born December 31, 1942 in Orrville, OH, he was the son of Benjamin Franklin and Zelia Fields Lockett.
He was a graduate of Orrville High School in 1961 and the College of Wooster in 2001. Roy was the Youth and Teen Director at the Wooster Community Youth Center aka the Spot. He had formerly worked in the CM Lab at Rubbermaid for 38 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Orrville under the direction of the Rev. J. M. Upshaw.
From 1970 to 1999 he was an assistant football coach at the College of Wooster. He was a board member and an inductee of the Orrville High School Hall of Fame, member of the W Association at The College of Wooster, member of the American Chemical Society, Board member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, member of the NAACP and was a mentor with the Gault Family Learning Center.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Sylvia K. Saunders Lockett; his children Melani K. (Steven Ist) Ross, Tiffany N. Lockett and Brooke R. MC Lockett all of Alexandria, VA and Robyn D. Lockett of Wooster; his mother of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Philip Christopher Lockett, Darwin Zachary Lockett, Steven Victor Ross II, Myles Royce-Lockett Ross, Andrew Westley Ross and Payge Sylvia Dickens-Lockett; sisters, Lorraine (Floyd) Smaller and Sylvia L. Lockett, brothers, Richard (Junice) Lockett and Benjamin Lockett all of Minneapolis, MN,
He was preceded in death by his father in 1990, a son Philip Grady Butler Lockett in 1963 and a brother Clifford W. Lockett on August 1, 2006.
