WOOSTER – Shirley Detrow, who dedicated herself to raising three boys in the 1950s and 60s, but also enjoyed selling shoes, jewelry and antiques, died of a sudden illness on Christmas Day. She was 84 and passed peacefully, saying she was ready to join her husband, Don, who died on Thanksgiving Day 2015.  
Born Shirley Mae Sindlinger in New Philadelphia in 1933, she lived in Toledo and Seville before settling in Wooster.  In her younger years, Shirley was active in bridge club, book club and PTA. In later years, she was best known for selling antiques that she and her husband discovered at estate sales and Don patiently refinished.
Shirley never retired from being Mom, filling her home with family and creating legendary meals around which they all gathered. She was smart, strong, quick-witted, independent and most of all loving and giving.
Shirley is survived by her sons — Jon of New York, Jeff of California and Don, who enabled her independence at home by moving back to Wooster from Detroit and caring for her the past two years.
She’s also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  
Burial followed a private family service at Wooster Cemetery.
