“Together Again”

Thelma Jeannette Ickes, lifelong resident of Wayne County, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the age of 93 at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare.  She had lived the last three years with her daughter Joyce and son-in-law Thomas Barker

Born on August 1, 1927 in Wooster to parents Clair and Mary Atterholt.  Thelma married Don Ickes in October 1949 and were married for 63 years until Don’s passing in 2012.  Also preceding her in death was a brother Kenneth Atterholt and a sister Virginia Campbell.

Thelma dedicated her life to her children and husband.  She was a wonderful and caring friend to many.  She was on the Women’s Auxiliary of Jeromesville Legion Post #749.  Thelma made the best pies around, which our family enjoyed for many years.  Fishing at the pond was another favorite of hers.

Surviving are her children Ron (Karen) Ickes and Joyce (Tom) Barker.  She was the best grandma to her only two grandsons Brian (Jaime) Barker and Matthew (Emmy) Barker.  She got in a lot of baseball practice with those two!  Mom was then blessed with two great grandchildren Penny and Desmond Barker, who entertained her a lot when they visited.  Another great grandchild will be arriving in September.

We would like to thank Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare for their compassionate care during this past difficult year.  Especially nurse Angie, social worker Mark and Pastor Bob, for coming to our home to make sure she was doing well.  A special thanks to Dianne Miller for all her help and love for mom.

A private family graveside service will be held at Fairhaven Cemetery in West Salem.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

The family requests that donations be made to Whit’s End Community Place, 1761 Beall Ave., Wooster, OH 44691 or to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.

We will miss you terribly mom, grandma and great-grandma.

Ron and Joyce, I am so sorry to hear of Aunt Thelma's passing. She was one of my favorite people growing up, and I was always a little in awe of her. She was a genuine force of nature in every positive sense. I have so many memories of happy times spent with all of you. My heart is with your and your loved ones. I know she will be missed.

Our sypmpathies to her family, She will be missed by all who knew her

So sorry to hear of Thelma’s passing. I rented a farm house off of them for 10 years and Don and Thelma could have not treated me any better and never raised my rent the entire time. I considered Don my second Father. I will always be grateful to both of them. RIP

I can remember Thelma from when I went to school at Reedsburg school. And my dad, Dale Reed, took his car to her dad"s garage for service and we got to go along. She & Don came to our house & and we went to theirs a few times and she had the best pie whenever we went there. I want to extend our sympathy to all of you.
