WOOSTER – Verde P. THOMAS, 95, of Wooster passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 in West View Manor Nursing Home.
He was born June 12, 1913 in Shreve the son of Quimby Irvin and Gertrude Peckham Thomas.
He had been a farmer for 30 years, worked at the former Gold Star Store and fed the cows at the O.A.R.D.C. He was a member of the Oak Chapel United Methodist Church where he had been the custodian for 20 years, a former member of the Board of the Wooster Equity and an 18 years member of the New Pittsburg Volunteer Fire Board and was a member of the Farm Bureau. He also bowled and played cards until he was 91 years old.
Surviving are a daughter Carolyn (Larry) Alexander of Big Prairie and a son David (Linda) Thomas of Wooster; grandchildren Thomas and Kathy Alexander, Bryan and Brenda Cooper, Julie and Ron Kandel, Melissa and Steve Kelley and Chris and Allen Cornelius; 23 great-grandchildren, sisters, Doris Sidle of Orrville and Marcella Blosser of Kent.
Verde was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, M. Lucile Breneman Thomas, on January 14, 2003 to whom he had been married for 65 years; brothers, Paul, Harry and Floyd Thomas and a sisters,Virgie Thomas and Evelyn Rickabaugh.
Friends will be received at the at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 2-4:00 P.M. and 6-9:00 P.M.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Oak Chapel United Methodist Church on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Paul A. Farren officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Shreve.
