W. LaVonne Hider, 99 years old, passed away at her residence, South Haven Assisted Living, in Lubbock, Texas of natural causes on October 18, 2021. Prior to moving to Lubbock in 2010, she resided at 2101 E. Smithville Western Road, in Wooster, Ohio.
LaVonne was born August 4, 1922, in Plain Township of Wayne County. She was the daughter of Forest and Wave Eberhart Sidle. In 1940, she graduated from Shreve High School as Salutatorian of her class and then went on to graduate from Wooster Business College a year later as a skilled secretary/clerk/typist. On August 28, 1947, she married Gerald E. Hider at Central Christian Church in Wooster, Ohio. They established a newly purchased home in Mechanicsburg and lived there for seven years. In 1954 they moved to their permanent residence on Smithville Western Road, a historically registered home in Madisonburg to which they renovated and enjoyed for over 50 years. Gerald and LaVonne were active members of the Salem Lutheran Church for over 50 years.
LaVonne was devoted to loving and caring for her husband and five children. Her much enjoyed hobbies included sewing quilts, reading, writing and collecting family heirlooms, dishes and misc. antique furniture which Mr. Hider repaired and refinished.
During her lifetime, LaVonne enjoyed travels to New York City, Washington D. C., Niagara Falls, Florida, Colorado, Pennsylvania, California, Texas, Arizona, Canada and her children’s and grandchildren’s homes.
Surviving LaVonne are her sister, Dorothy (Sidle) Craig of Brig Prairie, Ohio; her sister-in-law, Caroline Sidle; and LaVonne’s five children: Dr. Sheryl D. Mattison of Lubbock, Texas; Holly J. (Richard) Kerschbaum of Elyria, Ohio; Janelle Y (Kirby) Davis of Harrison, Arkansas; Geralyn Z. (Harry) Wilson of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; and Wylie J. (Cheryl) Hider of Wooster, Ohio. Also surviving are some nephews and nieces and a very special niece of her late husband, Virginia (Tom) Hostetler of Wooster, Ohio.
Her surviving grandchildren are: John, Andrew, Michael, Gregory and Dr. Stephanie Kerschbaum; Kyle H. Davis, Heidi Conlin and Matthew Haddock; Timothy and Jennifer (McSorley) Hider.
Her surviving 17 great grandchildren include: Gabriel, Maclain and Clayton Kerschbaum; Tyler, Luke and Madison Kerschbaum; Rosemary LaVonne and Rhys Sutherland; Tatsuki and Yushin Kerschbaum; Thomas and Amelia Kerschbaum; Austin and Harper Conlin; Pepper Haddock; Brynn and Rowan McSorley.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her beloved husband of (61) years, Gerald E. Hider; her parents, grandparents, brothers, Edison E. Sidle and Doyle D. Sidle, and several nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and great grandson, Alexander Kerschbaum.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster, Ohio on Friday, November 5, 2021 from noon until 2:00 p.m.
Officiating for services will be Pastor Eric Fairhurst at McIntire Bradham and Sleek Funeral Home in Wooster, Ohio at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Plain Lutheran Church Cemetery, located at 4830 Blachleyville Road, Wooster, Ohio.
