WOOSTER – William Floyd Conner (Bill), 71, of Wooster, passed away on September 2, 2009 at his residence after a battle with cancer. He was born in East McKeesport, Pennsylvania on August 11, 1938, the son of the late Margaret and Floyd Conner. He served in the US Army as a member of the Military Police. Bill was assigned to Alabama during the school segregation/Civil Rights standoff in 1963.
Bill was a long time employee of the Equitable Gas Company and retired after 37 years of service. Bill continued to work in the industry as a consultant until January of 2009. He was a resident of Pennsylvania, West Virginia and most recently Ohio.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann Riley Conner, his parents and a sister, Joyce Conner Beaty. Surviving are his two sons, Eric Conner of Munich, Germany and John (Shweta) Conner of Pittsburgh, Pa; a granddaughter, Asha; three sisters, Mrs. Nicholas (Mamie) Zarchansky, of Pittsburgh, PA, Ms. Barbara Conner of Lebanon, TN, and Mrs. Forrest (Carol) Garretson of Austin, TX; one brother Michael (Donna) Conner of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a number of nieces and nephews and his faithful and loyal pet and companion, Katie. Bill was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan and often boasted of witnessing the immaculate reception in person.
Services will be held at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster, OH on Friday, September 4 at 6:00 p.m. The family will have an addition Memorial service at the St. Boniface Church in Camden, WV on Monday, September 7 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Wayne Co., 2525 Back Orrville Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
