APPLE CREEK – William M CLARKE, , of Apple Creek, OH died peacefully in the presence of his family Wednesday, March 24, 2010 in his home.
He was born June 24, 1922 in Allison Park, Pennsylvania, the son of William O and Catherine Huber Clarke. On June 12, 1948 he married Rita Y. Perry. She survives.
William graduated from the University of Pittsburg in 1947 with a degree in education and from Catholic University in 1949 with a degree in social work. He retired from the Apple Creek Developmental Center as Director of Social Services for Northeast Ohio. He was instrumental in starting the Hatti Larlum Clinic along with several others. He was a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII earning 5 U.S. Battle Stars and the French Governments Creux-de Guerre serving with Gen. George Patton.
He was a member of the National Society of Certified Social Workers, Wilbur Welty Post 147 of the American Legion, member of the Wilderness Center and was a former member of the Lions Club.
He was an accomplished woodcarver, enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, square dancing, painting, traveling and spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children Diana Clarke of Wadsworth, Bill (Donna) of Calabash, NC, Bob (Penny) of Salisbury, NC, Denis of Millersburg, Gary (Carolyn) of Wooster, Yvonne (Bill) Kjerrumgaard of Bartow, FL, Cheryl (Jim) Dye of Wooster, Karen (Tony) Pendolino of Wooster, Annette (Stan) White of Arlington, OH and Daniel of Scottsdale, AZ., many, many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A sister Virginia McNally of Allison Park, PA.
William was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Celeste, Marie, Genevieve and brothers William O., Robert John and grandsons Scott Clarke and Eric Kjerrumgaard.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Sunday, March 28, 2010 from 2-4:00 P.M.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Stephen Moran as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Apple Creek Cemetery.
