Yolanda Kay Rhodes

Birth Date:
Wednesday, March 15, 1950
Date of Passing:
Sunday, January 17, 2021

On Sunday January 17, 2021, Kay Rhodes, loving wife, mother and Nana passed away at age 70.  Kay was an only child, born March 15, 1950 in Lexington, KY to Nick and Dollie (Colosimo) Domino.  She grew up in Winchester, KY and attended Saint Agatha Academy.  Kay went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts in Education (English) from the University of Kentucky.  She was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority where she served as Rush Chairman and Vice President. On January 8, 1972 she married Tom Rhodes.  They had 2 children, Nikki (Rob) Kehres and Brad (Renchell) Rhodes.  She had 5 grandchildren: Tatum, Ryder, Mason, Kellan and Ashlyn.  She taught at Conkwright Middle School in Winchester, Smith Middle School in Chillicothe and retired from Edgewood Middle School in Wooster, where she taught 7th grade Language Arts..

Kay was a lifelong Kentucky Basketball fan.  Her kids knew if they had friends over during a game there would be lots of screaming at the tv happening.  She was an amazing cook, and always made enough for a small army.  You never left her house hungry or without “to go” bags.  She cherished the role of Nana more than anything.  She loved every one of them so much and enjoyed attending their sports and plays.  Kay was a planner, a trait her family joked about because her children didn’t inherit that at all.  She always had presents bought and wrapped before anyone else even thought about shopping.  Kay loved starting traditions with her grandkids.  Every Halloween and Christmas the kids got matching pajamas (before matching pajamas were even a thing!). Her local grandkids went on outings to Baylor Beach and out on the Pontoon Boat, while her California grandkids had lots of Facetimes and vacations with her..  She was a huge dog lover, and her “grand-dogs” could do no wrong.

Kay was preceded in death by her father Nick and her mother Dollie.  She is survived by her loving husband Tom of 49 years, who stood by her side throughout her almost 5 year battle with cancer, her two children and 5 grandchildren who will all miss her beautiful smile dearly.

Calling hours will be Thursday, January 21, 2020 from 5-8:00 p.m.  at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.  Masks are required and social distancing will be observed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 527 Beall Ave., Wooster with Rev. Stephen Moran officiating.  It will be livestreamed on our funeral home facebook page at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will follow in the Wooster Cemetery.

Kay asked that donations be made to Tracy’s Paws Rescue, PO Box 849, Hondo, Texas, 78861.  She enjoyed watching all of the stories of rescued pets shared on Facebook.

She also wanted to extend a special thank you to all of her oncology doctors and nurses at the Cleveland Clinic in Wooster, especially Dr. Paul Masci.

Kay was so much fun. My mom, who also passed with cancer, loved working with her as did I several years later. She was a fabulous teacher who truly cared about the students.
