WOOSTER – M. Joan SPEICHER, 77, of Wooster, died Sunday, August 17, 2008 in Kobacker Hospice House in Columbus.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill Street, Wooster, OH, on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 from 6-8:00 P.M. and 1 hour prior to the service.
Services will be held at the Funeral Home, Thursday, August 21, 2008, at 1:00 P.M. with the Rev. Glenn Royer officiating. Interment will follow in Wooster Cemetery.

Born November 9, 1930 in Wooster, OH, she was the daughter of Roy and Faye Bower Merriman. She married William B. Speicher on June 16, 1950. He died October 10, 2001.
Jo was a 1948 graduate of Big Prairie High School and had worked as a secretary for nearly 50 years at local businesses including WWST, Rubbermaid and Mr. Perret’s. She retired from the alumni relations department at The College of Wooster.
She was very active in the community over the years. A member of the Junior Women’s Guild, she served as president in 1963 and often performed in the Red Stocking Review. She was elected to the Republican Central Committee in Wayne County and was the head of Taft Girls for Wayne County during Robert A. Taft’s 1970 senate campaign and served as a delegate to the state convention.
She was a longtime golfer and member of several leagues and golf clubs in the area as well as a number of bridge and garden clubs. She and her husband, Bill, were active in the Wooster Shrine Club and she also was a member of Eastern Star. Jo also enjoyed interior design, piano, reading, puzzles and gardening. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Wooster.
Surviving are daughter, Jill (John) Arnett of Powell, OH; sister, Peggy (Hal) Franks of Wooster and cousins Jean Arnsby of Wooster and Marty (Bill) Watson of Powell as well as many nieces and nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law and many good friends who will miss her deeply. Her upbeat spirit, humor, and strength were an inspiration to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by a sister Karen Burgess of Loudonville.
