Mabel A., HAMMOND, 85, of Shreve, passed away Monday, November 10, 2008 in West View Manor Nursing Home.
She was born September 20, 1923 in Houston, MO, daughter of Robert L. and Bessie E. Carter Willhite
She was a homemaker and for many years she had worked in Food Service at the Eastern Michigan University. She and her husband also did custodial work at their church for many years. Her nature was of being of service to others and putting them first.
Surviving are her children Lawanda K. (Edward) Harnish of Alliance, M. Dean (Becky) Hammond of Shreve, and Pamela J. (Gerald) Kelly of Shreve; 7 Grandchildren, 12 Great-grandchildren, brothers, James Willhite of Springfield, MO, Howard Willhite of Katy, TX, Dale Willhite of Plato, MO. sister, Ferne Weber of Plato, MO.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Max D. Hammond Sr., whom she married April 4, 1942, her parents, a sister Ruth Porter and a brother Eugene Willhite.
Services will be held at the Ripley Church of Christ on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Jim Platner officiating. Interment will follow in the Ripley Church Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the at the Ripley Church of Christ on Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 P.M.
