WOOSTER ? Peter J. Raymond, 76, of Wooster died Saturday, April 23, 2011 in his home.
He was born July 30, 1934 in Wooster, the son of Peter J. Sr. and Erma Hauck Raymond. He was married to Shirley A. Shelly for 57 years. She survives.
He was a 1953 graduate of Wooster High School and was well known throughout the area as an Abraham Lincoln Presenter. Following graduation he served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1955-1957. After his service with the Navy he returned to Wooster and worked for several construction companies as a heavy equipment operator and in 1964 he joined the City of Wooster Police Department. In 1970 he became the assistant chief of security at the College of Wooster and later worked for North End Garage. From 1992 to 2002 he was a warehouse manager for D & S Distribution. In 1999 he went to Hodgenville, Kentucky to learn to be a Lincoln Presenter and continued the presentations until his illness forced his retirement.
He was a member of Central Christian Church, a life member of the Association of Lincoln Presenters and a Charter member of the Wayne Co. React.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Mike (Jennie) of Apple Creek and Judy (David) Wiles of Brewster; grandchildren, Amanda (Drew) Gorfi, Josh Raymond, Richard, Ryan Talbott; great-grandchildren Sebastian, Bremen, Tristen Talbott, Amelia Kathleen Gorfi, Ariana May Talbott and his extended family Mel (Paul) Kline of Wooster.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends will be received on Tuesday evening, April 26, 2011 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Central Christian Church, 407 N. Market St., Wooster at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Kevin Phipps officiating. Burial will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.
