WOOSTER ? Gladys Fasig, 98, of New Pittsburg died Monday, April 25 in her home.
Born May 20, 1912 in Chester Township, she was the daughter of the late John and Leatha Bates Arnold. She married Rexford L. Fasig on June 8, 1931.
Gladys was a graduate of Chester High School and had lived in Wayne County most of her life. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in New Pittsburg and enjoyed serving with the Irma Hiner Missionary Society. Gladys also served on the New Pittsburg Fireman?s Auxiliary and was a member of the Northwestern PTA.
Gladys had a love of sewing and spent many hours making clothes for her seven children and occasionally their friends. She was a seamstress for many of the Chester and Northwestern cheerleaders. She also tailored and altered clothing for women in both Ashland and Wayne County.
Besides cooking, sewing, cleaning, and raising seven children, Gladys also clerked in their family owned general store.
She is survived by sons; Don and Ron, both of New Pittsburg, five daughters; Elly (Walt) Rice of New Pittsburg, Pat (Jack) Oberholtzer of Jeromesville, Donna Jean (John) Keener of West Salem, Leatha (Dick) Franta of Lexington and Barb of Urbanna, Virginia.
Also surviving are four sisters; Pauline Ebert, Ruth Blough, Loy Robinson, and Nona Becker.
Gladys was also blessed with 16 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Rex, her loving husband of seventy-eight years on May 27, 2009, a grandson Ricky Rice, a great-granddaughter, Olivia Peace Nolletti, sisters Marie Blake, Naomi Echelberger, Odella Bischak and brothers Leroy, John, Jr. and Don Arnold.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, April 27, 2011 from 6-7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 9451 Ashland Rd., Wooster, OH 44691 with Pastor Mel Kirk officiating. Burial will follow in the New Pittsburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Building Fund, 9451 Ashland Rd., Wooster, OH 44691 or to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne Co., Wooster, OH 44691.
