WOOSTER, OHIO “ L. Jean Jacobs, 90, of Wooster died peacefully Monday, March 5, 2012 in her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Rockton, Pennsylvania on October 15, 1921 to Oscar and Olive Gelnett Dressler. She was married to James W. (Jake) Jacobs for 47 years before his death in 1990.
Jean was a graduate of DuBois, Pennsylvania High School. In 1943 she graduated from Clarion State University. While at Clarion University she was a member of the national sorority, Delta Sigma Epsilon. After graduation from Clarion University, she taught 2 years in Medina, Ohio and then one year at Salem, Pennsylvania.
In 1947 she and her husband moved to Wooster taking time off to raise two sons she then returned to teach at Wayne Elementary School in the Wooster City Schools. There she taught third grade for four years and kindergarten for 21 years retiring in 1984 after 26 plus years of service.
She was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Madisonburg, the Wooster Education Assoc., Ohio Education Assoc. and Retired Teachers Assoc. and the Wooster YMCA. She was an avid advocate for aqua cise as a way to maintain fitness especially during her retirement years.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-laws Steve and Chris Jacobs of Ashland and Wesley and Ellen Jacobs of Westerville; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Joseph, Wilmer, Kenneth and Lemoine Dressler and a sister Maxine Brubaker
Friends will be received from 2-4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Salem Lutheran Church, 4873 Cleveland Road, Wooster with the funeral service to follow at 4:30p.m. the Rev. Bege Wiegman officiating.
Services will be held in Rockton, Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John ™s Lutheran Church, Rockton, Pennsylvania with the Rev. Mark Cantaral officiating. Burial will follow in the Rockton Cemetery.
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family with arrangements.
