WOOSTER “ Harry L. Van Zile, 91, of Wooster passed away, Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Smithville Western Care Center
Harry was born March 22, 1921 in Wayne County, the son of Clarence E. and Martha J. Hamlin Van Zile. He married Lucy M. Mong in 1949. She died September 6, 1980. In 1981 he married Louise Metsker. She survives.
Harry was a graduate of Jeromesville High School. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in New Pittsburg and had previously been a member of the Reedsburg Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council and in other capacities. In 1987 he retired after 40 years of service from Frito-Lay serving in all areas of the operation both in Wooster and other plants. In his retirement, he worked part time for Bank One and Carter Lumber.
He had served the community as a school board member at Northwestern , volunteer fireman, helped to organize the New Pittsburg Lions Club and Gun Club and was a 20-30 Club member.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter Naomi Stephenson of California, a step-daughter Linda Landis of Burbank, stepsons Dennis Bauman and Roger Bauman both of Wooster and a daughter-in-law Karen Van Zile of Wooster; 7 grandchildren.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, a son H. Michael, brothers Walter, Paul and Donald Van Zile and sisters Mabel and Florance.
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Brent Durham officiating.
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
