SMITHVILLE “ Margaret Anne Shreve Hedrick of Smithville passed away following a brief illness on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Brookdale Place in Wooster. She was born February 18, 1929 in Clarksburg, WV to Wayne and Mildred Hiteshew Shreve. In 1950 she married Paul Hedrick who died in 2006. Their only child, David Paul Hedrick, was fatally injured in a mountain climbing accident in 1978 in the state of Washington. Margaret graduated from Lumperport High School and was an honor graduate from Fairmont State College with a degree in Education in Comprehensive Business and English. She was president of the Pi Kappa Sigma Sorority, a member of the Kappa Delta Pi, the Blazers, Future Secretaries of Fairmont and Future Teachers of America. In Fairmont she was a secretary in the Tax and Insurance Dept. at the home office of the Monongahela Power Co. Margaret was a member of the Methodist Church in Fairmont, WV and a member of the Emeritus Club at Fairmont State College. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a leader in the Park Recreational Program in Smithville. She was a Life Member of the Ohio Retired Teachers. She taught Business Education Classes at Smithville High School from 1956-1970 and was the first teacher in the Senior High Skill Stenography program at the Wayne Co. Career Center in 1970. She retired in 1986 after 30 years of teaching. In retirement she and Paul enjoyed traveling. They went to Alaska to the Variegated Glacier where their son, David, had done a scientific research with the University of Washington. They also traveled to Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii. She is survived by a sister, Lucille Jackson of Tennessee and a brother, Raymond Shreve of Florida. She is also survived by many friends and former students. In addition to her parents, husband and son, she was preceded in death by sisters Kay Robinson and a brother Clifford Shreve. A memorial service will be held at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 6:00 pm with the Rev ™s Dan Wingate and Eric Fairhurst officiating. Burial will be in the Lions Club Cemetery in Lumberport, WV. Special thanks to the staff at Brookdale Place and Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne Co. of Wooster for the loving care to Margaret.
