WOOSTER — The Rev. Dr. G. Kenneth Shafer, Jr (84) went home to be with The Lord on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 surrounded by his family.
 He is survived by Florence, his loving wife of 61 years, son Kenneth E. Shafer of Wooster, OH, daughter Linda (and Randy) Shadoe of San Jose, CA, son Jeffrey D. (and Laura) Shafer of Vestal, NY, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.    
His life was devoted to serving The Lord as a Presbyterian pastor. During his ministry he served churches in West Carrollton, OH, Danville, IL, Royal Oak, MI, Cleveland, OH, Columbus,OH, and Cincinnati, OH.  He also served as a full-time interim pastor at churches in Bryan, Fairborn, Zanesville, Bluffton, Akron, and Mt. Gilead, OH and part-time interim pastorates in Amanda, Logan, Newark, Pickerington, and Columbus, OH.  He was active in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and served on various committees at the Presbytery and Synod levels.  He also was a past president of the Interfaith Counseling Center of Columbus, OH.    
He enjoyed his family, sports, classical music, was an avid reader, and volunteered his time in many community organizations.  
There will be a private memorial service for the immediate family on Friday, December 27, 2013 with burial to follow at Wooster Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by McIntire Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home.    
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to People to People Ministries, 454  E. Bowman St, Wooster, OH, 44691.  A  public celebration of his life is being planned for the spring.
