Wesley Owen Walter, 79, long time Wooster barber, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, February 25, 2018 after a period of declining health.
He was born in Wooster, Ohio on July 25, 1938 to Henry C. and Opal B. (O ™Dell) Walter.
Wes, an excellent athlete, graduated from Wooster High School in 1956 and married his high school sweetheart, Hazel Vaughn.   He served 4 years in the US Navy in Norfolk, VA before returning to Wooster to begin over 50 years of barbering.   He worked with his dad and brother at Bowman Street Barbershop and finished his career at Larry ™s Barber Styling.
Wes was an avid fisherman and former Bassmaster member.   He enjoyed playing sports in his younger years, then watching them in his later ones.   He took an interest in cooking, philosophy, history, science, and especially astronomy.   He studied meteorology in the service and could explain almost any weather pattern or forecast.   His musical tastes were varied and he enjoyed reading and watching great documentaries and films.   Wes was a conversationalist, enjoyed thoughtful debate, and appreciated the age of reason and critical thinking.   A sense of humor and his charm matched his curiosity and intelligence.
A super nice guy, Wes helped many people during their difficult times.   His concern for other people and empathy for them were genuine.
Wes was a tremendously talented barber.   His precision and consistency were remarkable.   His clients were loyal to him and over the years became friends.
A lifetime Browns season ticket holder and Buckeyes fan, he was also a former member of the Wooster Elks Lodge.
Wes will be missed by his daughter Sharon Kay Walter Chamberlain of Ft. Myers, FL and her children Justin C. (Loren) Smith, Sterling (Jennae) Chamberlain, and Kathryn Chamberlain; great grandchildren Lily, Madeline and Graycen Smith and Wesley Anthony Chamberlain.
He is also survived by his sister, Sue Walter of Ft. Myers, FL, his brother Robert (Jo) Walter of Wooster, his nieces and nephew Beth Mowrey, James (Ron) Bromberg, Lisa (Justin) Walter Kawashima and Robby Walter, and eight great nieces and nephews.   Wes was very fortunate to have Don Buren of West Salem as his lifelong best friend.
